INTRODUCTION:A dictionary definition of a Christian would be something similar to “a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ or in the religion based on the teachings of Jesus.” While this is a good starting point, like many dictionary definitions, it falls somewhat short of really communicating the biblical truth of what it means to be a Christian. The word “Christian” is used three times in the New Testament (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). Followers of Jesus Christ were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Christ. The word “Christian” literally means, “belonging to the party of Christ” or a “follower of Christ.”

I.                    WHO IS A CHRISTIAN?

1.    A person who behaves like Christ. Acts 11:26

          2.  A person who lives in Christ and Christ lives in him. Gal. 2:20; John 1:5

          3.  A person who does the will of God. Matthew 7:21, Gal 5:22, Mark 16:15-18

II.                WHY SHOULD ONE BECOME A CHRISTIAN

1.      We are sinful. Romans 3:23

2.      Sin has a penalty. Romans 6:23

3.      Christ has paid our penalty. Romans 5:8

4.      It is only Christians that can escape hell to heaven. John 3:3-6; Rev 21:8; 1 Thess 4:16-18

III.             HOW CAN ONE BECOME A CHRISTIAN

          1.  Accept (Admit) you are a sinner and turn away from your sin. Romans 3:10-12

        2.  Believe that Christ died for your sin. John 3:16; Romans 10:10

       3. Confess your sins and Christ as your personal saviour. Romans 10:9,

IV.     BENEFITS OF BECOMING A CHRISTIAN

1.      HOPE: When one takes hope away from a man or woman what is left? Nothing! Hebrews 6:19

(a).You will escape hell to heaven. 2 Thess 1:8-9, Titus 1:2

(b). Death 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14; 1 Corinthians 2:9 - 10

©. God will hear & answer our prayer. Prov. 15:8, 29

(d). God will never leave us. Hebrews 13: 5-6

(e). All things will work on our favour. Romans 8:28, Psalm 23:1-6, Gen 50:20

2.   LOVE When one becomes a Christian out of sincerity of heart in gospel obedience he can know that as a child of God that God loves him in a special way. John 14:23, Eph 5:22-24,29

3. PEACE: What a precious gift! In every life there will be times when heartbreak will come and not just heartbreak but often there will be issues that arise that drive peace away. It may be a job loss, an illness that has struck down a loved one, or any number of things that come and disturb us greatly. When these things come where does the non-Christian go to retrieve peace?

The word "peace" in the Bible, from the Greek word (eireinei), refers to a mental attitude of tranquility based on a relationship with God in the Christian Way of Life. It is a word which describes the result of a person's correct response to God's Grace.

The Bible uses "peace" in two ways.

(a)There is personal peace with God which comes when a person accepts Jesus Christ as Saviour. Ephesians 2:14-18 Romans 5:1

(b)Then, there is the peace of God which is available on a daily basis as the believer participates in the Christian way of life according to the Plan of God.
two types of peace
Acts 9:31; Isaiah 26:3,4 Philippians 4:6-9

So, where you find peace mentioned in the Bible it refers either to the reconciliation of a Christian in salvation, as in Eph. 2:14,17, or to the mental attitude found in the believers.

2 Tim. 1:7 "For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Conclusion: you don't become a Christian by joining a church, adopting a creed, or by believing in God.  There are lots of false churches, false creeds, and even the devil believes in God.  Becoming a Christian means you need to understand what the real issues are.

INTRODUCTION: Every champion is a man of determination and every man of determination is a general. Determination is the key to successful living. Without it nothing is achieved.

I.                    WHAT IS DETERMINATION?

1.      Focusing your energy and efforts on a task and then sticking with it until it is finished.

2.      Using your will power to do something when it isn’t easy.

3.      Determination means a strong sense of self-devotion and self-commitment in order to achieve or perform a given task.

II.                 WHY MUST WE PRACTICE DETERMINATION?

1.      Without determination things don’t get done. 1 Corinthians 9:24;27

2.      Without determination we can’t make our dreams come true. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

3.      People (Vision Killers) will try to weaken your hands. 2 kings 2: 1-7; Ezra 4:4-7

4.      Without determination one cannot become a champion. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

III.             HOW CAN ONE PRACTICE DETERMINATION?

1.      By putting his trust, faith and hope in God. Proverbs 3:3-5, Philippians 4:13; Ps 125:1-2

2.      By disciplining our body. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-6, Dan 1:8

3.      Through the act of prayer. Phil. 4:6, Daniel 2:18-19, Nehemiah 4:1-7

IV.             BENEFITS OF DETERMINATION

1.      One major benefit of being determined is that you achieve what you set out to do. 1 Corinthians 9:24-29, Daniel ; 2 Kings 2:8-15

CONCLUSION: "Every failure, obstacle or hardship is an opportunity in disguise. Success in many cases is failure turned inside out. The greatest pollution problem we face today is negativity. Eliminate the negative attitude and believe you can do anything. Replace 'if I can, I hope, maybe' with 'I can, I will, I must.'"

Some people quit too soon. If you are determined to achieve your goals, you will most likely reap the rewards of your hard work. It also is an indication of your character.

I.                   WHAT IS GRACE?

1.      Grace is derived from the Greek word “charis” which means “Unearned, undeserved, unmerited favor, good will, and loving kindness. It is the total gift of God, and impossible to earn. It can only be received. 1 Cor. 15:10; Rom 4:4, 11:6

a.       Jonah testified.  Jonah  4. 1-2  It was the grace of God that angered Jonah because this time grace was granted to the enemies of Israel. To Jonah, patriotism was more important than preaching or piety. Ironically, it was grace which kept God from dealing with Jonah as severely as his sin would require. How gently God asked Jonah, “Do you have good reason to be angry?” (4:4).

II.                WHO CAN RECEIVE THE GRACE OF GOD?

1.      Only the humble can receive it:  James 4:6

III.             HOW IS THIS GRACE RECEIVED?

1.      Through faith (Rom 5:1-2, Eph 2:8-9). Faith is the key that unlocks God’s grace

IV.             TYPES AND LEVEL OF GRACE ( 2 Petr. 3:18)

1.      Common grace: is that benevolence which is poured out upon all men, regardless of their spiritual condition. Matthew 5:44-45, Acts 14:16-17.

2.      Saving grace: Generous provision of salvation on the cross of Calvary. Acts 15:11

5.      All grace:  This is the highest level of grace. This is the combination of all the aforementioned levels of grace. 2 Corinthians 9: 8, 1 Peter 5:10.
